Aromaleigh Astronomical Collection

So I did a trade with Miss K for some makeup. All I really wanted was the sample set of the Mythos collection, and just asked her to add in whatever else she wanted. As a result I got myself a hold of the full sample set of the new Astronomical Collection several days before it was released.

At the time I was confused, "Was this a retired collection from the time before I was introduced to Aromaleigh?" And if so, "why couldn't I find out anything about it online?"

Well now I know. I had been planing on posting my review and swatches of this collection a few weeks from now, but with this new information I decided to bring up my deadline and post it early, complete with color descriptions, swatches, and definitions of the names.

Left to right:

Celestial: A barely there baby pink with a silver shimmer, pink, and rainbow sparkle.
-pertaining to the sky or visible heaven.

Umbra: A heathered gray/beige pearl with rainbow sparkle.
-the complete or perfect shadow of an opaque body, as a planet, where the direct light from the source of illumination is completely cut off.

Retrograde: Warm burgundy with a pink undertone and rainbow sparkle.
-moving in an orbit in the direction opposite to that of the earth in its revolution around the sun.

Extra-Galactic: Soft orchid with silver shimmer and pink/purple sparkle.
-pertaining to anything outside the Milky Way system.

Big Bang: Deep purple on a black base with rainbow sparkle.
-a theory that deduces a cataclysmic birth of the universe .

Left to right:

Crescent: Bright yellow with gold shimmer and blue sparkle.
-the figure of the moon in its first or last quarter.

Binary: A pale spring green base with amazing purple shimmer.
- a binary star is a system of two stars that revolve about their common center of mass.

Perihelion: Buttery soft yellow with a gold shimmer and purple sparkles.
-the point in the orbit of a planet or comet at which it is nearest to the sun.

Azimuth: An amazing icey blue shimmer on an olive base. So lovely and impossible to capture.
-the arc of the horizon measured clockwise from the south point, in astronomy, or from the north point, in navigation, to the point where a vertical circle through a given heavenly body intersects the horizon.

Heliosphere: A slightly dark gold shimmer with red, purple, and gold sparkles.
-the region around the sun over which the effect of the solar wind extends.

Event Horizon: Bright green with gold shimmer and blue sparkle.
-the boundary around a black hole on and within which no matter or radiation can escape.

Wavelength: A plush aqua with diamond sparkle.
-the distance, measured in the direction of propagation of a wave, between two successive points in the wave that are characterized by the same phase of oscillation.

Antimatter: An olive gray with gold shimmer and purple sparkles.
-matter composed only of antiparticles.

Blueshift: An amazing plush gray duochrome with purple/blue shimmer and rainbow sparkle.
-a shift toward shorter wavelengths of the spectral lines of a celestial object, caused by the motion of the object toward the observer.

Escape Velocity: A plush blue on a black base duochrome with rainbow sparkle.
-the minimum speed that an object at a given distance from a gravitating body must have so that it will continue to move away from the body instead of orbiting about it.

Left to right:

Dark Matter: Dark brass with high shimmer and blue and red sparkle.
-a hypothetical form of matter invisible to electromagnetic radiation, postulated to account for gravitational forces observed in the universe.

Mega Parsec: A reddish copper with gold and purple sparkles.
-a unit of distance that is equal to one million parsecs.

Apogee: A warm slightly pink brown with rainbow sparkle.
- the point in the orbit of a heavenly body.

Neutrino: tree bark brown with rainbow sparkle.
-any of the massless or nearly massless electrically neutral leptons.

Ephemeris: Plush pearl brown with rainbow sparkle.
-a table or callender showing the positions of a heavenly body on a number of dates in a regular sequence.

Magellanic: Chestnut brown with gold shimmer.
Edit: See denelians comment below.:

Nadir: Pearlized coral pink with rainbow sparkle.
-the point on the celestial sphere directly beneath a given position or observer and diametrically opposite the zenith.

Pulsar: A surprisingly wearable orange with gold shimmer and red sparkles.
-one of several hundred known celestial objects, generally believed to be rapidly rotating neutron stars, that emit pulses of radiation, esp. radio waves, with a high degree of regularity.

Milky Way: A milky beige with rainbow sparkle.
-the spiral galaxy containing our solar system.

Astronomical is an amazing collection with so many complex colors, I highly recommended it. Some of my favorites include Pulsar, Mega Parsec, Perihelion, Azimuth, Event Horizon, Blueshift, and Escape Velocity.

  1. Arika, thanks so much for posting this- I was so happy with our trade that I put in the Astronomical sample set, it's been packed for weeks, but I've been unable to get it programmed or available due to some wicked curve balls life has thrown lately- I actually had several more final collections planned for November to use up my raw ingredients and what's left of our many jars of backstock, but I regret I don't think those will be able to happen... I've not been able to write color descriptions for these, so reading yours has been a real treat. I will definitely link to your blog post from my post about Astronomical! Thank you again for a great trade and I'm so glad you like this collection... my favorite color is Azimuth! xoxo Kristen

  3. Miss K: Azimuth is the best! Seriously I've never seen anything like it before. I'm glad you liked my color descriptions. I have to admit, some of them were difficult for me, I hope I got them right.

    Robyn: Thank you so much^^.

  6. hey! i'm here from Ms K's blog [bcuz this looks GORGEOUS!] and thought i'd be helpful [if you care]:
Magellanic can refer to one of two other galaxies - the Lesser Magellanic Clouds, or the Greater Magellanic clouds. or, possibly, it's all one galaxy but it *seems* to be two from our vantage point. the GMC is REALLY shimmery and beautiful, easy to see and just!!!!!!! really, no words. compared to the Greater, the Lesser is "ok" - but if you see it first, it's also total OMGWOW!!!!!!!!!!"

wonderfully, she got the color pretty close to how the GMC look part of the time! i wish she wasn't selling everything off and retireing - Ms. K is a TOTAL genius. *sob*

  8. Good job on the descriptions! I got my set on Saturday, and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the whole thing (naturally.) And I was blown away by how unusual(in a beautiful way) the colors are.

I wore Aizmuth right away. It's soooo cool.

Two eyes are simply not enough to devote to AL!!
